Bonus***The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a
Medical Technologist 3, with the Blood Bank, in the Department of
Pathology, located in Miami, Florida. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Verifies
identification of specimen with physicians' orders, prepares
specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and
careful manner.Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal
or unusual results.Researches and prepares all pertinent patient
data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for
evaluation and sign-out.Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and
maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.Recognizes test
inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while
supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar
problems.Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure,
and maintains appropriate data recording.Assumes lead duties and
acts as a resource to staff.Orients and trains employees on
laboratory techniques and operations.Adheres to University and
unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University

Education:Bachelor's degree in relevant fieldCertification and
Licensing:Certification in relevant specialty or
fieldExperience:Minimum 3 years of relevant experienceKnowledge,
Skills and Attitudes:Skill in completing assignments accurately and
with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and
prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to
process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Laboratory testing: Run patient's samples following SOP, assure
every specimen have the correct identification and is acceptable
for testing. Run and resolve pending list. Run and reports
proficiency testing following SOPs. Perform corrected reports and
documented it following SOP. Document and follow department
protocol for end of shift transfer. Laboratory lead tech
responsibilities: verify and approve employees time, scheduled,
assign daily task to the team, resolve assigned department issues
and problems, assist supervisor, manager or director as need.QA and
QC responsibilities: performed, review and accept daily QC runs,
run and report proficiency sample, follow laboratory protocols for
corrections reports, identify, correct and report deviations of
SOPs. Daily, weekly and monthly documentation of bench
decontamination, refrigerators and freezer temperatures, room
humidity and temperature. Document daily activities and
maintenance. Perform linearities, AMR verification, cutoff
verification, accuracy and precision and instrument to instrument
comparison following SOP and supervisor/manager guidance. Inventory
and supplies: maintaining adequate inventory levels as per
protocol, rotate previous inventory stock when it applies. Places
order regularly as need, pick up, unpack, date and storage in a
timely manner according to manufacturers' recommendation. Check
packing slips, verifies amounts, item received, documents and give
copies to supervisor/designee.Laboratory ancillary activities:
keeps lab clean, neat and organized. Performs housekeeping duties.
Remove empty boxes, recyclable material and disposes them as per
SOP. Prepare Biohazards containers for use and them disposal.
Assist in the maintenance of hardware by changing paper, labels
and/or printer ribbons or any other task when necessary.DEPARTMENT
